Style Inspiration: Space .. Is Big

"Space .. is big. Really big. You won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is .."

* * * * * * *

This is that which I call my Barbarella dress.
It shifts and never sits nicely and has ended up in the charity shop pile time and again.
Time and again I have pulled it out.
I know I'll always keep it.
I do not though, wear it as all I do is fidget and tug at the hem .
I wanted a photo for prosperity.

* * *
These are my 1960's go go boots.
They cost me £8.
They are one size too big. It matters not.
When I have worn them, cars have slowed down and I have become self-conscious.

* * *
These are my gloves.
They itch.
I wore them to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show on stage.
I went as Frank n Furter.
One day I might show you a picture.
At the moment I am not so brave as to do so.

Dressing up is fun ...............

Space Attitude ..

Ahh, so that's what you do with your arms!
Pew! Pew! Pewpewpewpew!!!

I've never seen me from behind before .. I look so tall.
 And a bit intimidating ..
"NONE SHALL PASS!!!!"
I showed Andy this and he said I look like an Amazon.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

And for the record, those are my 1960's sunglasses.

  5. Wow, 60s Supervixen Bondgirl Melanie!
    You look amazing, you should definitely wear those boots more often. Well, wear all of it often actually.
    It will be no surprise to you to know I love dressing up, full on, wigs and all. And you MUST find the nerve to show us your Frank n Furter pics. Please! xxxx

    1. Thank you! Andy thought I looked as though I should be in a band!
      I would wear the dress more often but it shifts so the do up bit right down the front always settles off centre .. I suppose this is why I found it in a charity shop in the first instance.
      I'll try and find my Frank picture xxx

  6. You look great in this Melanie, it's so different from other things I've seen you in but I love it. You should definitely keep it all! I too would love to see your Frank n Furter pics, I'm sure you looked fabulous. I'm always bagging stuff up to throw it out then saving it at the last minute as well, better to live with the clutter than regret chucking something out. xx

    1. Thank you! Yes, it is a bit different! I'm definitely keeping it all, and I've never considered charity shopping the boots, they're far too special. You're absolutely right there, better to hang on than regret.

    1. Thank you! I shall try and find a picture of me dressed up and then see if I have the nerve to go through with it, though I suppose I went out in public like it so it can't hurt! I'd love to see you as Eddie, I really can't imagine that!

  8. Dressing up is fabulously fun! One of my favourite things about wearing vintage clothes is that I get to dress up (at least in the eyes of those who don't wear vintage) all the time.

    I adore your fun outfit here! I don't have many 60s pieces in my wardrobe, or else I'd be very tempted to play around with an outfit like this, too.

    1. Dressing up is so much fun, I forgot how I loved it, so shall be doing it more often I think.
      And thank you! I have a few bits, but am too used to wearing earlier styles now, so that I feel a bit self-conscious when I do.

  9. You look fab despite the dress being a bit of a pain to wear!! I think I should wear my majorette's dress and wellies and we should hit the town together. If that doesn't make people stare then they've plums for eyes!!!xxx

      Now how much fun would that be! I think we should have 'Little Green bag' playing as we walk!

  11. keep the dress! is it a mid 90s copy? I loved the 60s revival in about 1996! I adore the boots, you should wear them more! This whole outfit is amazing!

    1. Oh I will, I've put it in a charity pile for years but have always ended up keeping it. The boots are a little fragile, the last time I wore them I had to stop to get them resoled as it came off!

  12. Wow! So bright - I love these colours together and you look amazing. The boots are especially fab. I'm trying to put a few more sixties pieces in my wardrobe myself, especially shift dresses.

    1. Thank you! Bright is definitely the word! I don't think I could go out like it for this exact reason! I have a few sixties bits but always feel self conscious wearing something shorter now, funny really as I used to wear skirts that barely covered my bum (with opaque tights)!

  13. You are too fabulous!! I adore this post, both for the amazing ensemble and the Hitchhikers references. By the way, I used to play Janet, and occasionally Magenta. But no rad cool itchy gloves to show for it. SO glad you still have these amazing items. The Barbarella dress is to die for. So glad it didn't end up in the charity shop.
    Don't Panic,

    1. Oh thank you lovely, that's sweet of you to say xx
      I've been to the stage show a fair few times but was only ever an audience member. I used to do Magenta but switched to Frank, which was more fun.
